The Spa at The Samoset - Spa Etiquette

The Spa at The Samoset strives to create a tranquil and inspiring atmosphere during your spa experience. Our Spa Specialists will assist you in selecting and creating personalized treatments that will be the starting point of your journey. To ensure the comfort of all the guests at our Maine spa resort, we have created the following Spa Etiquette guidelines, which are detailed in the FAQ below. We hope this guide answers your questions about our Maine spa resort; however, if you have any additional questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact a Spa Coordinator.

Hours of Operation
The Spa at The Samoset is open seven days a week from Mid-May to Mid-October with reduced hours during the winter season.

Who can guide me in choosing my treatments?
Our Spa Coordinators will assist you in planning the perfect spa experience. Please feel free to ask them any questions that may be of concern to you.

What if I have special health considerations?
Certain considerations regarding treatment need to be made for our guests who have high blood pressure, allergies, cardiac conditions, are pregnant, or have any other physical ailments or disabilities. Please notify our Spa Coordinator before booking your treatment if you have a health concern. If at any time during your services you experience discomfort, please alert your therapist immediately.

What if I am pregnant?
While there are a few services that should be avoided during pregnancy, there are many beneficial treatments that can be enjoyed. It is strongly suggested that you receive clearance from your physician prior to receiving any spa service. No treatments will be offered to spa guests in their first trimester. Please notify our Spa Coordinators if you are pregnant when you book your appointments so that they can offer guidance.

When should I arrive?
For your enhanced comfort and relaxation, we suggest that you arrive 15 minutes prior to your first treatment. This will allow you to change into a Spa robe and slippers and enjoy our relaxation room prior to your appointment.

What if I am late for my appointment?
Arriving late will limit the time for your treatment, thus lessening its effectiveness and your enjoyment. Your treatment will end on time so that the next guest will not be delayed. Full value of your service will be applied.

What is the Spa’s cancellation policy?
If you must reschedule or cancel your appointment, please notify us 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment to avoid being charged the full service fee. Cancellations of packages or private parties also require a 24-hour notice. A credit card number is required at the time you book your treatments.

What about gratuities?
For your convenience, a gratuity of 18% will be added to each spa treatment which is reserved exclusively for your spa provider as a gratuity. If the service exceeds yours expectations, please feel free to leave additional gratuity which will be distributed to your technician during your visit.

What about payment for my Spa services?
We accept all major credit cards and traveler’s checks. You may also charge spa services to your room at the Samoset Resort. For your convenience, payment is accepted prior to your treatments.

What should I wear during my treatment?
Most body treatments are enjoyed without clothing however, please wear whatever is most comfortable for you. During all treatments, the body is fully draped, except for the area being worked on. Before treatment, robes and slippers are provided in the men’s and women’s locker rooms.

Can I make any requests to increase my comfort level?
This is your time and you should delight in your spa experience to the fullest. Whether it is the room temperature, the amount of massage pressure or the volume of the music, please notify us of any discomfort or preferences. For the comfort of all our guests, we request that cell phones and pagers be turned off in The Spa.

What about my jewelry and valuables?
If you are staying in the hotel, please leave valuable items in your guest room. If an item is of great value to you, we ask that you do not bring it with you. The Spa at The Samoset Resort cannot be responsible for lost or stolen items.

Is there a minimum age for treatments?
Children ages 12 years old and younger may enjoy manicure and pedicure services if accompanied by an adult in the nail salon. Children ages 13-16 may enjoy any of our Spa's services when accompanied by an adult in the treatment room. Children age 17 may enjoy any of our Spa's services on their own with an adult's permission.

Should I shave before my treatment?
Shaving is recommended but not necessary for men prior to a facial. If you do choose to shave prior to your facial, please be sure to do so at least two (2) hours prior to your scheduled appointment. Shaving is not recommended prior to any body treatments or hair removal services.

Are Gift Certificates available from The Spa?
Absolutely! You may purchase Spa Gift Certificates for a specific dollar amount or for a particular service. Spa Gift Certificates can be used towards services or towards purchases in our Spa Boutique. Order a Gift Card Today!
