Accommodations
We are well underway with our planned improvements at the Samoset Resort. We have already completed some visual improvements to the hallways with rich gold accents to bring out the deep colors in the new luxurious carpeting. We have also completed all of the guestroom bathroom wall décor, and installed new towel racks and elegantly framed artwork to match. We will also be renovating the 28 room deluxe wing to complete the entire room renovation commitments over the past few years. We are also taking the time to replace exterior trim and shingles on the hotel wings. Our close proximity to the salt air of the Atlantic Ocean requires us to keep up with our aesthetics. We are also improving the appearance of the Health Club and Function Space entrance with visually appealing columns for a more elegant entrance.  Our repeat guests will also notice new electronic door locks throughout the property.

Samoset Guest Cottages
We are very excited about naming the three new Samoset Guest Cottages to join the Flume Cottage. They are aptly named Wind Drift, Spring Tide and Sea Spray . Together, they form a collection of private, luxury guest cottages offering stunning views of Penobscot Bay and Breakwater Lighthouse. The cottage structures have been set, and we are very proud to be employing local contractors to perform the work on these various projects. There are two 1 bedroom units @ 804 sq ft plus a porch of 168 sq ft for a total of 972 sq ft. The one 2 bedroom unit is 1,046 sq ft plus a porch of 160 sq ft for a total of 1,206 sq ft. The Samoset Guest Cottages are bookable and will be available 5/1/11 – 10/31/11. Access is provided by private golf carts, luxury has its privileges.

Restaurant, Lounge, and Spa
We have begun the renovation for the new restaurant, La Bella Vita, and The Spa. It is a fond farewell, with mixed emotions, to the great Marcel’s and Breakwater Café. We are certain that the spirit of excellence that endured in these outlets for decades will live on in these great new concepts and offerings for our customers. We are excited to bring back our loyal local customers who may miss the old Marcel’s, but will fall in love with the new La Bella Vita Ristorante. The new lobby staircase entrance to the Enoteca Lounge and Spa below will trigger a new set of senses for the frequent Samoset customers who love to gaze upon the ocean views over the emerald greens of the seaside fairways and sand bunkers with sailing schooners beyond. Now they will be able to smell the fresh aromas of new cuisine, hear the bustle of the lounge below, and be beckoned by the call of relaxation to The Spa. The former staircase entrance to Marcel’s and Breakwater will become the future home of the Lighthouse Boardroom, offering dramatic views of the ocean and golf course.

Patios and Decks
Just beyond the reception desk in the lobby will be a new outdoor Observation Deck which will enhance the entire lobby experience, especially during check-in. Equally exciting will be the plethora of outdoor patio and deck space to soak in the sun and views as part of the dining and relaxation experience just outside the new restaurant and spa. Porches, decks, and patios will offer many tables and seating arrangements, warmly centered with a gas fire pit.

Recreational Amenities and Kids Programs
We are also dedicated to improving the recreational amenities on property to make Samoset an enjoyable and active experience.  We will be relocating the volleyball court and croquet courts closer to the tennis courts, playground, shuffleboards, and outdoor pool.  We will also be improving the already successful Samocamp, to be the exciting Samoset Kids Club, featuring educational and enriching activities for children.

Awards
The resort received the AAA Four Diamond award for 2011, the eleventh year in a row. Our goal is to have La Bella Vita become a AAA Four Diamond restaurant as well, carrying on the legacy of its predecessor, Marcel’s. 2010 was a strong year for awards with Travel & Leisure Magazine, Conde Nast Traveler, Fodor’s and Downeast Magazine all recognizing the significant improvements that are made year after year. We are proud and excited for our customers when our awards are filled with accolades such as “Choice, Top Golf Resort, Best of Maine, and World’s Best”. We are committed to living up to these high expectations, and that is evident in the customer-centric attitudes of each and every staff member at the Samoset.

Warm Regards,

Connie Russell
