Update on all of the exciting renovations happening at the Samoset including Accommodations, Guest Cottages, Restaurant, Lounge, Spa, Paties, Decks, Public Space, and Condominium Development.
Introduction
Our planned improvements are progressing with the arrival of spring, outside temperatures starting to rise, and snow almost melted on the golf course. Noted designer Kim Deetjen, ASID, principal of Truexcullins based in Burlington, Vermont, was here on property recently with architect Keith Nelson to review the renovation and provide the final design touches to the project.
Accommodations
The 28 room Deluxe Wing is nearly complete with new lighter shade carpet, brighter wall vinyl, decorative window treatments, new beds, glass shower surrounds, and upscale furniture. The 20 end rooms facing the breakwater will receive new towers containing safes and refrigerators as added amenities. Safes are also being added to our suites and other room types.
New improved columns are in place as you enter the Health Club and Meeting Space to match the new navy blue canvas awning installed in 2010.
New electronic door locks have arrived and are being installed next week. The locksets will feature upgraded key cards with a stronger magnetic strip allowing guests continued uninterrupted access.
Guest Cottages
The 3 cottages were set in February during one of many snow storms this year. They have dramatic views of the Bay and the two bed room unit looks right down the Breakwater to the lighthouse. The cherry kitchen cabinets and stainless appliances will arrive shortly. Each cottage will feature a stackable washer and dryer unit for laundry convenience. In the meantime, the interior and exteriors are being finished by Murray Builders of Owls Head. The areas surrounding the cottages will be professionally landscaped later in the spring. Guests can easily access the zero entry outdoor pool, Splash Bar, Fire pit and our Ultimate Backyard within steps of the new cottages.
Restaurant, Lounge, and Spa
Progress continues with lots of custom woodwork pieces being constructed off property including elaborate wine displays to highlight the new La Bella Vita Italian theme. The new stairwell has been moved back to the lobby for more convenient guest access and a centralized location. The former lobby windows looking down into the lounge have been removed for a more direct view of the ocean. The Spa is coming along with the plumbing, electrical almost complete. The entrance walls will be finished in glass. After being greeted by a spa receptionist, guests will have a choice of one of four treatment rooms including one dedicated to couples. In addition, a nail studio is available as is a private lounge and patio overlooking the golf course and ocean.
Patios, Decks and Public Space
The lobby space has expanded now allowing access to both sides of our grand granite fireplace. Two of the Schooner Room walls have been changed making the room 13 feet narrower but 15 foot deeper and views directly of the ocean and golf course.
The Observation Deck is being constructed this week and will be a welcome addition to our arrival services. Guests will enjoy sipping on their favorite beverage while watching golfers and sailboats in the bay while their rooms are being prepared.
Condominium Development
The shoreline armoring and stabilization project was completed by JBI, Inc. of Owls Head at the site of “The Cottages” condominium development. We created a new road off of Warrenton Street just north adjacent to the Village entrance. With this new infrastructure in place, the 48 unit luxury condominium community will be constructed in the future. No changes to the golf course in 2011.
